What can and what should be

Written by Colmon Elridge, President

I recently read a poll conducted by MTV in which nearly half (44%) of respondents concluded what many of you already know: This election is not only historic, but will be one of the most important elections of our lifetime. Indeed, this election is about the Kentucky and the America that is and that should be.

Consider this: Right now, there are more than 67,000 children in Kentucky without health insurance. We know that access to healthcare at an early age is an effective means by which to preemptively identify and treat illnesses that, if left untreated, can and often times do become a detriment to what many children can achieve.

This is an example of the Kentucky that is. But in the Kentucky that can and should be, we as a Commonwealth can come together to find these children, enroll them in the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and provide more children with the opportunities for success that so many of us have been blessed with.

This is what we are fighting for. Over the course of the last 8 years, the America that should be has become a privilege of the few instead of the inherent right of every American. What keeps those born in other countries coming to our shores is the promise – not that we are perfect, but that we aspire to be a better country than when we first began. This election gives us the chance to get America back on track and to inspire future generations to always know that in this moment, we spoke with a resounding voice that said enough of the mindless attacks and distractions and yes to taking our country back.

It is in this spirit that we are foregoing our meeting this month to instead ask every one of our members to spend the next 28 days fighting, in your own way, to ensure that Kentucky is on the right side of history as American becomes America again. Please call (859) 268-4448 and volunteer at our party HQ. A few hours a week making phone calls, walking precincts, or helping run the office is enough to ensure that our generation speaks with a resounding voice on November 4th.

Find out how you can volunteer with the Kathy Stein for Senate and the Kelly Flood for House campaigns, as well as the Bruce Lunsford for Senate campaign. Giving Governor Beshear strong leadership (especially in the state senate) will be crucial to achieving the Kentucky we deserve and the Kentucky that should be. And giving President Obama a strong champion like Bruce Lunsford in the U.S. Senate will only add to where we can take America.

Join me in helping take our state and nation back! Let’s not wake up November 5th and wonder, what if!

28 days to victory! Let’s go get em’.

My Best -

Colmon
